Teens and Drugs
Today, when people talk about teenagers taking drugs, they often talk about what the drugs do.
However, we should also take a look at why teenagers start taking drugs in the first place; there are two main reasons.
First of all, it is all too easy for many young people to get their hands on drugs. Drugs are
available almost anywhere: at a school yard, in line for a movie, or at a football game. To find drugs,
teens do not have to risk going to the seedy parts of town or deal with shady characters on street
corners. Often times, they are offered free drugs by their friends. Also, because many teens have
parents who work, they have too much free time. They tell their parents that they are at the library in
the afternoon, when they are really at their friend’s house or at the park. Thus, while their parents are
busy and hard at work, their children are becoming addicted as well.
Most importantly, teenagers have enormous pressure to conform—to behave the same way
their peers behave. Teenagers often have close friends or best buddies with whom they share
everything, including drugs. They also tend to go to a lot of parties and other social events where it is
most important to be one of the crowd, to be “cool.” Even the most mature teen may be tempted to do
drugs at a party rather than risk being called names and treated as an outsider. For all these reasons,
getting involved with drugs is a growing problem for teenagers.
AFTER reading, think about the following questions (we will discuss them in class on Monday):
1. What is the topic sentence of the composition? What is the main idea?

4. What is the concluding statement?

Response Paragraph: your perspective on the issue. There are four parts to a critical response paragraph: 1) an argumentative topic sentence, 2) evidence in the form of quotations or paraphrases for the argument you are making, 3) interpretation of your evidence in relation to the argument, and 4) a strong concluding statement. HOW TO WRITE A RESPONSE PARAGRAPH
You need to come up with an informative introduction giving the name of the “Short Writing” or Book and author as well as and telling us what the rest of the paragraph will prove. TRANSITION, Now introduce the quote, leading into the “first piece of evidence which is your quote and remember to wrap it into the sentence and give the page number”(p.22). Now you must analyze the quote, meaning reveal something about character motivation, relation to theme, why it is ironic, etc, remembering this is you thinking and should not be completely evident in the text. TRANSITION, Now introduce the 2nd quote, leading into the “second piece of evidence which is your 2nd quote and remember to wrap it into the sentence and give the page number”(p.24). Now you must analyze the quote, meaning reveal something about character motivation, relation to theme, why it is ironic, etc, remembering this is you thinking and should not be completely evident in the text. TRANSITION, Now introduce the 3rd quote, leading into the “third piece of evidence which is your 3rd quote and remember to wrap it into the sentence and give the page number”(p.28). Now you must analyze the quote, meaning reveal something about character motivation, relation to theme, why it is ironic, etc, remembering this is you thinking and should not be completely evident in the text. TRANSITION, You need to come up with a concluding statement which summarizes everything you just talked about, nothing fancy, but just add some clarity and maybe a bit of food for thought.

It is possible to not always use the quote but you must be very clear exactly what point you are talking about. This should not replace good quoting practice, but occasionallyyou may find it easier to give the example in your own words.

Also, there are parents who hard work and don’t have time to share and supervise their children and finally the most important reason is the social pressure that adolescents receive from friends or peers. Therefore, drug use in adolescents is a problem that continues to grow for the reasons described.
RESPONSE PARAGRAPH
The essay called "Teens and drug" explain that teens start taking drugs for two main reasons but the same assay sets more than two reasons. Therefore, adolescents use drugs to multiple factors, not just two. However, as explained by assay, drug availability anywhere is one of the factors for starting consumption. So, teens can get free drugs through their friends. Nevertheless, I think that free drug does not come only from friends but also dealers to generate more addicts. Besides, little or no parent’s supervision raises the risk of adolescents to use drugs. In addition, the author highlighted in essay the importance the social pressure that it is exerted on adolescents. They need to imitate the behaviors of others, to be accepted. Without a doubt, I believe that all these factors have a decisive influence when an adolescent decides to taking drugs.

ReplyDeleteThe article explain two reasons why teens take drugs, first is that tens could get free drugs from their friends and many place, I think that giving free drugs could make teens try to use drugs and let them addicted in drugs, that is the plot of drug producers. Then, second reason is about family, some of parents not have time to accompany with their children and the teens want to make friend and touch drugs follow the trend of use drugs, in my opinion, teens have much pressure in the society, so it is a important problem to teens, if we want to make teens leave far away from drugs, we need spend much time with them and find some interest things to instead of taking drugs.

The teenager is going to try something new if he found too much free time. And the teenager will be interested to try drugs if drugs were given by friends. And the teenager can get the drugs at anywhere such as the friends’ houses, school, and at the park, so it is not only from streets or seedy parts. What’s going to happen if the teenager addicts to the drugs? The teenager will destroy his/ her body and his/ her family is going to be disappointing for him/ her. And the teenager has been avoiding the bad friends and the places that the teenager can find drugs on it before the teenager will get a big problem.

We should prevent drugs to save teens because they will be men for our country. Consequently, we have to do inspection tours and apprehend dealers of the drugs. And if we apprehended the dealers we can arrest suppliers of drugs. Therefore, all people have to work with us to avoid any jeopardy. Because reduce risks and don’t spread the drugs, the teachers and parents have to show dangerous of the drugs to their students or sons. If we are disposal of the drugs the teens will be fine. ReplyDeleteNowadays drugs are being taken by teenagers . Drugs are provided smoothly and also can be found easily if you are a teenager . it can be you can be found where ever teenagers go usually . But why do teenagers take drugs ? The answer is one of these thing : either there parents don't look after their kids or the accompany some bad friends and sometime just to be cool . Some parents are busy all the day and don't have time too look after their kids where are they , what are they doing and with who they are . Friends have a great impact in their friend , if they were bad their friend will be bad like them and do what they do . However, Some teenagers take drugs just to show how cool they are .After all , Drugs are serious problem found it way to teenagers and we should be take care of .

ReplyDeleteIn modern society, teenagers are able to access drugs easier than their parents might think. Teens are often the subject of peer pressure from friends causing them to do drugs. Unfortunately, when these teens get to a certain age, their friends have more of an influence on them than their parents do. At certain teen social events, the cool kids might be taking drugs leaving a lasting impression on the sober teens. This might even lead these teens to do some hard drugs, and hard drugs causes a weak mind. The author even mentioned that the most mature and disciplined teen can also succumb to drugs just to fit in. The author wants the readers to know that drugs are a growing problem among teens and people need to be aware of this problem.

I believe that the article teens and drugs was a great attempt at bringing awareness to an issue that teens are facing. Drugs is becoming a big problem to teens because they think that it makes them fit in. The parents should become more active in their teenagers lives. The article made a good point about teens lying to their parents regarding their whereabouts. Parents should know about these lies and keeping the bad company that their children are with away from their loved ones. Teenagers need to read articles like these so that they can understand that they are not alone when sticking to sobriety. If we want to keep the teens safe than they should avoid peer pressure and their parents should take a bigger role in their lives.

I think the author focus on the teenagers, and consider it as start point of the addiction. Because all the reasons are available to make the people in this age addicted to consume drugs . The writer mentioned the main two reasons. The first one is related to the drugs availability and easy to reach. The second reason is related the characteristic of the teenagers and how they can be effected by the environment around them, the friends and the places they usually go to are two important factors in the environment around teenagers, I believe that any reaction to end this problem should be according to the main reason . Work against the drug dealers to prevent the teenager from getting drugs easily . Also the environment around the teenager should be watched out by who is responsible about the teenagers, father ,mother and teachers etc. . Finally we should measure the problem to manage it. If we could find the proper reason we can find the proper solution.

Actually, the teenagers are addicted to drugs is the big problem of many countries. The article focuses on the reason why it comes. This is an alarm for the parent as well as the teenagers. The author try to prevent the teenagers from getting addicted to drugs by making everyone aware how easy to reach the drugs. So that, the parent should pay attention in their children except spending a lot of time to work. However, the main reason is about teenagers themselves.
